Cabullet.gif (978 bytes) SELF ADHESIVE ANTI-STATIC STRIP

Static Shocks are the #1 Cause of Phone and PC Problems!

Static Shocks can cause lots of problems. Here are some examples:

  • Lost files on a PC

  • PC Crashes
  • Network Crashes
  • Irratic Lighting or Operation on Phones
  • Dropped Calls on Phones (Cut-offs)
  • Telephone System Crashes
  • Painful shocks to the ear, mouth or finger

If you EVER feel a Static Shock, these things ARE happening to you!

View Static Strip on Phone Static Strip cut to size (with scissors) and applied to the Phone

View Static Strip on Keyboard Tray Static Strip applied to Keyboard Tray

When the heating system goes on, the static problems start! Heating systems dry the air as they heat it. When air dries out, static electricity builds up and damages electronic equipment that gets hit by shocks. Since phones and PCs are constantly touched by users, they're the items most likely to be effected.

A lot of people think they get shocks "from" things, but they don't! You actually build up a static charge by moving around, even moving your feet slightly under the desk. The body acts kind of like a battery (or capacitor), collecting the electric charge. The same thing happens when you comb your hair on a dry day, moving the comb through your hair keeps building up a static charge until your hair is standing straight up!

The electrical charge built-up in your body is going to leave your body taking the path of least resistance to ground - like a file cabinet, door knob, phone or PC. If it's just a little charge, like less than 1000 volts, you won't see or feel it. If it's a big charge, which can go up to 50,000 volts, you're definitely going to see and feel it!

Your phone or PC is never going to store up electricity and shock you because it's attached to ground at some point (usually through the AC power cord). The electricity in your body builds-up, with no way to get to ground until you touch something. If that something is your phone or PC, you send 50,000 volts through the delicate electrical components - which usually ends up with something screwy happening or the system crashing.

When you hold a handset to your head, your ear or lip is about as close as it can get to the elements in the handset, which are attached to ground. When the charge in your body is big enough, it will jump from your lip or ear to the element in the handset, shocking you and the phone in the process. Same thing happens when you put your finger on a key on your phone or keyboard. Your finger is mighty close to a switch that's connected to ground. I've even heard of a receptionist with braces on her teeth getting a shock that made her gums bleed from her phone (it didn't do the phone much good either).

Didn't have those problems 20 years ago? That's true, but there were no PCs back then and telephones didn't contain microprocessors (small computers) that go nuts when hit with 50,000 volts. The real way to stop the Static Electricity is to humidify the air. You can get furnace mounted humidifiers that will solve the problem 100%. You can also treat carpeting and other fabrics, which will get rid of most of the problems. A 50-50 mix of Downey Fabric Softener and water sprayed on the carpet every few months does wonders. Wearing a Wrist or ankle strap connected to ground at all times will fix the problem, but it's a 'little' inconvenient.

Many of our customers have found that our Anti-Static Strip is the quickest, easiest and cheapest solution. Our inexpensive Strips are easily cut with a scissors, and stuck to a place that you are likely to touch just before you touch your phone or PC. Take a look at the pictures (above).

The wire from the Static Strip MUST be grounded. The easiest place is usually the little screw in the middle of the wall plate on the nearest AC outlet, but any ground will work fine. What if you don't connect it? The Static Strip won't do anything at all. You MUST attach the 7' wire to ground!

Can you afford to live with the problems caused by Static Electricity?

MODEM FILTER

Reduce Cut-offs

Increase Modem Speed

It only seems like Magic!

The MODEM FILTER filters noise you can't hear...

Some modem problems are caused by common mode noise and spikes on the phone line.

You can't hear these noises, but they affect:

  • The speed the modem connects at (modems retrain to find a dependable speed)
  • The data rate or throughput of the modem (greatly effected by errors causing data to be retransmitted)
  • How often calls are dropped

If you have common mode noise on your line, the MODEM FILTER will immediately fix these problems!

Because of the Modem Filter's design, it also stops common mode spikes on the line that can damage your modem.

Easy to Install:

Plug the Modem Filter into the modem, and plug the line cord into the Modem Filter.

No other connections or power needed.

NOTE: We also have a Modem Protector™ with a Modem Filter built-in, which will control the loop current on your line as well as eliminate common mode noise, letting you achieve the maximum modem speed possible on your particular phone line (as well as preventing damage to your modem from high loop current).

Cabullet.gif (978 bytes) DSL FILTERS

Put one in front of every phone, except the DSL Modem or Router.

ADSL is delivered over a regular working phone line (it can be on a dedicated pair). Since voice or modems use from about 300 to 3000 hertz, DSL uses the remaining bandwidth - and there's a lot of it, which gives you the broadband speeds.

The DSL Filter filters out all audio over 4000 hertz, so you don't hear the hiss and noise of the data on the phones, and at the same time any harmonics of voice above 4000 hertz don't interfere with the DSL data.

If you still hear data noise on the phones after installing a DSL Filter, try putting two DSL Filters in-series.

NOTE: If DSL is delivered on a dedicated pair (without dial tone), a DSL Filter isn't necessary. That's usually called SDSL, but some phone companies will agree to put ADSL on a dedicated pair without dial tone.

IN-LINE DSL FILTER

In-line DSL Filter In-Line DSL Filter

All phones plugged into this filter will be filtered. Simply plug the filter in-series with each modular phone, answering machine, regular modem etc. NEVER put it in-front of the DSL modem!

As an alternative to putting a filter in front of each phone, you can put one filter at the demarc, so all of the phones are in-series with that filter. That requires you to put the DSL modem on a dedicated or spare pair, so there is no filter in-front of it.
