Each cable we make
is tested by humans on a sophisticated electronic cable tester
that checks each conductor/pair of the cable.
Every 25 pair connectorized cable we
make is made double ended, so all 25 pairs can be tested (it's
impossible to test a single ended cable!).

cable, we cut the double ended cable after it's tested to make

This 25 pair MALE connector has notches at
the ends, instead of screws. It plugs into a piece of equipment with the flip up
wire locks (called a Latch Lock).
This is similar to the old Centronics printer
cables, which were 36 pin instead of 50 pin.
We can also put a FEMALE Latch Lock connector
(with the flip up wire locks) with a 180°
hood on a cable. 90° hoods don't work well with
these type of connectors.

What were
they thinking?
I thought the customer who
called was joking. He said he needed a cable for an NEC phone system that
had six RJ61 8 pin plugs.
RJ61 plugs use USOC wiring that
hasn't been used in the US in decades. There are essentially no
8 pin USOC jacks or patch cables used in the US (we do stock an 8 Pin USOC
Surface Mount Biscuit Jack).
The Chinese engineers that NEC
hired to design this system obviously had no idea what they were doing (but
they were probably cheap). They looked in a book and came up with the RJ61.
Totally clueless, with no idea of how the system would be installed in the
field (a common theme with engineers!).
If they would have chosen to use
an 8 pin plug with 568B wiring, the same that's used in CAT5, there would be
lots of options an installer could use. In this case, there is no other
option to do it correctly without using the Mod 8 cable, or making his own
patch cords.
If you use a CAT5 patch cord in
the 8 pin jacks on these NEC systems it will probably work, but the wires
won't be paired. Actually, they'll be paired wrong, so
depending on the length of the CAT5 patch cord, you could end up with
crosstalk between the ports... Crosstalk you can hear on trunks or maybe
strange operation on the digital phone sets. Probably not worth taking the
chance since troubleshooting those problems would be very difficult (and
expensive!).
The Mod 8 Cable gives you
four ports on each 8 pin plug, with 24 ports total on the 25 pair cable.
When you punch down the cable on a 66 block (or use our Connectorized Mod
8 Cable), you'll have ports 1 to 24 in order going down the block.
NOTE: We're no longer stocking these MOD8 part numbers (use the
above QWIK Cable™ part number), but we'll make them for you if you've
bought them before and want us to duplicate an order.

together on the right and left sides of a 66M or B Split Block.
When used on an RJ21X, it allows
the technician to disconnect the phone equipment from the phone line for
testing purposes (to make sure a problem is in the phone line, not in the
equipment).
Use a Spudger ($1.59
each) to remove the Clips easily.
Don't squeeze the Clips hard when removing them with a long nose pliers,
or you'll distort them.

Some Tie Wrap Facts:

Tie Wraps
shouldn't be left in the sun (like on a dashboard or seat). The
nylon material will dry out, making the Tie Wrap brittle and
break when it's tightened. You can fix dried out Tie Wraps by
putting a few drops of water in the bag and sealing it. They nylon will
absorb the moisture, and the Tie Wrap will be good as new.

Tie Wraps will
dry out if left in an opened bag.
Use them up, or put a couple of drops of water in the bag and reseal it.
Clear packing tape works OK. Seal it well so it's air tight.
-
Tie Wraps shouldn't
be left in freezing weather. The moisture in the nylon will create
microscopic cracks that will permanently damage the Tie Wrap.
They'll be more likely to break when tightened.

All of our Tie Wraps
are packed in bags of 100 even if we sell them in 500
quantity, since you don't want to open a bag and have it laying around,
drying out. Work out of one bag as much as possible!

It's best to use
Telephone Gray or Black Tie Wraps outside. They are UV
resistant, and are better than Natural outside.

Once a Tie Wrap is
tightened on cable (indoors, that doesn't move), the Tie Wrap
will dry out but hold the cable just fine since there's no motion. Don't
over tighten the Tie Wrap, which will deform the cable.

Use our Velcro Tie Wraps
on CAT5 or CAT6 cable, since deforming data cable can
effect Ethernet speeds (voice usually doesn't care unless you get crazy
tightening the Tie Wrap).

When standard Tie
Wraps burn, they lot off toxic gas. If they're in a ceiling that's
used for the air return on the HVAC system (where the returns aren't
ducted), they will distribute the toxic gas to other spaces that aren't on
fire, where the people will die (even though there's no fire). You would use
Teflon cable in air plenum return ceilings, for the same reason.
Teflon doesn't let off toxic gas
when it's burned, so it's safe to use in the plenum return to bundle cables.
You don't want to use in premises with a ducted
return, since they're incredibly expensive!

By plugging these Critical+ Solid Wire Cords into the mod jacks on a phone system, gateway, ATA or other modular device, you can tie wrap them in a bundle towards the 66 Block, where it will look neat when you cut the wires down. With an Octopus Cable, you'll have extra wire for each of the mod cords, so your installation will look like a mess unless you spend a lot of time dressing the cable (somehow?).
